A Bit of Interesting History Joy Adamson, the author of Born Free, met each of our safari groups in the beginning years. We started out as a fund raising arm of her organization, Elsa Wild Animal Appeal. From there the company grew to the international recognition it has now. President of Born Free Safaris, Alana Hayden founded the Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa (APTA) - an organization that educated members of the travel industry how to select the best safari for the traveler and how to make sure that the safari could be booked with confidence.
