Hotels and Game Lodges (top) Standards in Africa vary from properties that can be compared to luxury hotels in the United States to simple national park type facilities. Born Free selects hotels and lodges based on their location to the best wildlife viewing sites, friendliness of the staff, traveler's needs, food quality and cleanliness. Very important are the aesthetics, or the feeling that each accommodation captures. Views and compatibility with the natural surroundings are also considered when recommending a property. A game lodge would be a property that is located in a game viewing area. Hotels are located in cities or towns.

Permanent Tented Camps (top) To capture the feeling of staying under canvas, while retaining the comforts of a hotel, permanent tented camps or lodges have been established throughout Africa. Properties vary in size, but all provide large tents, generally built on cement floors or wooden platforms. All the modern conveniences are provided, including flush toilets, plumbed water and in some camps, electricity. It is common to fly-in to the permanent camps and utilize the properties 4x4 vehicles.

Semi-Mobile Tented Camps (top) The semi-mobile camp is a excellent value, and is designed to offer the experience of the mobile camp to the traveler who may only want to stay a few nights in a camp. Campsites are small, generally providing five to nine tents setup for a season in a select area. Sleeping tents are large, with very comfortable furnishings and proper camp toilet facilities, including hot and cold water. A dining tent and often a lounge or library tent is also provided.
