KENYA: MARA SIANA CONCESSION: LELESHWA CAMP

When visiting the Mara we highly suggest a stay at Leleshwa Camp. This environmentally sensitive property is a step above most other Mara properties. We believe that it is our primary responsibility to enhance our environment on a sustainable basis. A large part of that goal is the task of improving the lives of the nearby community. Every guest who stays at Leleshwa Camp does so in the knowledge that they are making a direct contribution towards the upliftment of the Masai Community. These improvements take the form of infrastructure, health, education and the environment.

HEARTLAND OF AFRICA: Botswana - Namibia - Zambia

Born Free works closely with Wilderness Safaris - the company has a wide range of projects that are supported by traveler participation and booking. Environment is the heartbeat of the organization. Booking with Born Free and Wilderness supports wildlife and/or community related projects. The range includes a Wildlife Trust, Wilderness projects such as Rhino relocation and Chitabe fire project and one of our favorites Children in the Wilderness.

CHILDREN IN THE WILDERNESS

Children in the Wilderness is dedicated to helping children whose childhoods have been interrupted and disrupted by life threatening conditions such as illness, poverty and the HIV/Aids epidemic. Using environmental education, therapeutic recreation and good old-fashioned fun, Children in the Wilderness exposes children to new opportunities, increases their self-esteem, builds and strengthens their capabilities to cope with life's challenges and educates them with the life skills necessary to actualize their greatest potential. The children are inspired to strive to achieve their utmost potential; their enthusiasm and new ideas are shared with their families and communities - and more local people are involved in the conservation of critically threatened environments.

How You Can Help

Children in the Wilderness will need the commitment and funding from Partner organisations and individuals, to ensure it's sustainability. With the support from the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, Wilderness Safaris as well as participation by the community and government, such a program is a sound investment for anyone seeking to reap inspirational rewards for their money.

Children in the Wilderness Southern Africa is made up of independent companies each with their own Board of Trustees. When booking Wilderness Safaris with Born Free you can become a part of this wonderful program.

Make A Donation

Should you wish to make a donation there are various options available:

A) Donate to the Resource First Foundation Trust (USA) earmarked for Children in the Wilderness (this trust supports many projects so please ensure that you make your intentions clear) – 501c tax deduction available for donations over US$150. Donations made to the Trust will be available to any of the Children in the Wilderness programs on receipt and approval of a Trust application.

B) Donate directly to any of the Children in the Wilderness programs (as per bank accounts specified). This donation will go directly to that country and be used for hosting children in that region.
