Mt. Kilimanjaro Trek Trekking to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro is possible for just about anyone. You MUST be in good physical condition. For advanced climbers, please ask about our Shira Route itinerary. A wildlife safari in Tanzania or a scuba adventure off the pristine white sand beaches of Zanzibar make great extensions to the climb! Anyone may join one of our scheduled departures or with a 2 Person minimum, you can create your own departure. There are three routes readily available, Machame, Shira & Marangu.

Day 1 Arusha, Tanzania
You are met and transferred to your lodge for a climb briefing and then overnight.

Day 2 Ascent of Kilimanjaro
Begin climbing through thick forest, reaching your campsite at about 10,000 feet.

Day 3-4 The Shira Plateau
Cross the valley to the Shira Plateau. The 1st day is spent ascending and the 2nd day is spent hiking locally to aid in acclimatization.

Day 5 Barranco
Continue towards Arrow glacier. You should be able to see the ice sheets of Uhuru Peak.

Day 6 Lava Ridge
Descend into the gorge, and climb its eastern wall. Then take a walk beneath Kibo’s southern icefields. From Barafu Hut the two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be seen.

Day 7 Summit on the Roof of Africa
Rise by 2 a.m. and start the final ascent. Pass through a gap between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers and the rim near Stella Point, then you’ll proceed to Uhuru Peak - the highest point in Africa. Begin your descent to Horombo Campsite.

Day 8-9 The Final Descent & Departure
The first day, you’ll walk down the mountain at a leisurely pace and then transfer to your lodge for a hot shower and a soft bed! The next morning, you’ll transfer to Arusha where you may continue on to your next destination or to the airport to return home.

Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro & Masai Trek
An 8 day trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is followed by a journey to the collapsed caldera of Ngorongoro Crater to observe the amazing wildlife. Visit historic Olduvai Gorge & then continue to the outskirts of the Serengeti where you’ll interact with a Masai tribe. Please request an itinerary from a Born Free Safari Specialist.


Oliver’s Camp
For those who demand a little more in guiding, a little more in comfort and a lot more of the true African bush experience, Oliver’s Camp should not be missed. Located adjacent to Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s leases 80,000 acres from the Masai villagers. This premiere semi-permanent camp offers a great variety of activities including day and night drives in open vehicles, visits to the Masai villages and walking safaris, led by Paul Oliver and his wonderful staff of guides. Days are filled with game viewing among the baobob and fig trees. A hot shower, a delicious dinner and a roaring campfire ends your fabulous day at Oliver’s Camp.


Selous & Ruaha National Parks
Selous and Ruaha are the most untraveled wildlife areas in East Africa offering some of the most adventurous safari experiences. The Selous is a stronghold for over 50,000 elephants, 150,000 buffalo and large populations of lion, leopard, giraffe and zebra. The area is remote and the wildlife can be shy. Activities are varied from boat viewing on the Rufiji River to safari walks, along with traditional game drives. The parks are reached by aircraft from Arusha or Dar Es Salaam. All southern Tanzania safaris are customized to meet your requirements. Three to five days are suggested.

Kilimanjaro. Your host will share his knowledge of the area on walking, horseback or open vehicle safaris.

Borana
An oasis of unspoiled wilderness in Northern Kenya. Enjoy game drives in specially modified vehicles. Horseback and walks are also available. Cottages have a fireplace, private bathroom and panoramic views. The main house looks over a gorge and waterhole. Food is excellent with produce grown on the property. 

Ol Malo
Available for up to six guests. Your warm and friendly hosts have a great love and knowledge of the African bush and will personally lead you on game walks, camel rides and game drives. Cottages take the shape of their surrounding rocky outcroppings and the pool is built on the edge of the escarpment. 

Wilderness Trails at Lewa Downs Conservancy
A magical combination of scenery, hospitality and wildlife. Located in the foothills of Mt. Kenya, the area is home to northern wildlife species that are not found in the south. Guests can horseback ride among giraffe, game drive in open vehicles and take walks. Cottages are simple, constructed of thatch and volcanic rock.


Olonana - Masai Cultural Experience

In the western section of the Masai Mara, along the banks of the Mara River, lies Olonana Camp (pictured at right) & Masai village. Olonana Camp is a beautiful deluxe permanent camp with a dining verandah overlooking the Mara River. Game walks are lead by the Masai in and around the Mara. The Loisaba Adventure
An Explorer’s Africa
Loisaba Wilderness private wildlife conservancy is located in northern Kenya, in the very heartland of the nomadic Samburu & Laikipia tribes, & is home to more than 250 bird species and 50 species of wildlife. 

The stone, cedar and thatch lodge is perched high on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau looking south towards Mt. Kenya. The unique Skybeds (pictured above) are raised, handcrafted wooden platforms sculpted high into a kopje of rocks and semi-covered with a thatched roof. Homemade, natural beds can be moved out onto the uncovered area for a night under African stars.

Cottar’s 1920’s Luxury Camp
The most luxurious of all mobile tented outfitters, Cottar’s Safari Services, has established a permanent tented 1920’s style camp(pictured below) in a relatively untouched area near the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The camp lies in a forested valley beside a spring with extensive views of the Serengeti Reserve, bordering the Mara. Eight discerning guests sleep under spacious white canvas tents in a truly grand style. Proper toilets are en suite. Food service is wonderful and served by gloved waiters. Activities include day and night game drives and walking safaris. Superb guiding is headed by Calvin Cottar. Guests are encouraged to spend a minimum of three nights at the camp.


Tsavo National Park
Galdessa Camp
Located overlooking the Galdessa River, this lodge has only 8 semi-thatched bungalows with bathrooms. Galdessa’s professional guides will take you on game walks and day and night drives in open vehicles. The area is a favorite for elephant numbering 8000 strong.


The Great Rift Valley Trek
This 10-day walking safari takes you from the Masai Mara Game Reserve across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Magadi. Walk an average of 6 miles a day. Share the paths with the Masai herdsman and the Sonjo people tending to their fields. Walk through large herds of wildebeest and antelope camping each night at a different location. A fabulous experience for the true adventurer.
