| "There
is no country in Africa thats geography is sculpted by
the Gret Rift Valley. Towering mountains, lush valley
floors and enormous crystal-clear lakes are what Malawi
is all about. The scenery is diverse, the habitats are
varied and the culture is some of the richest in all of
Africa." |

Day
2-3 - Liwonde National Park
Liwonde
National Park is arguably Malawi's best for wildlife. It is located
along the Shire River and as a result is rather long a thin. Thousands
of hippos and crocodiles lie on the rivers banks. You can also see
plenty of elephant, impala water buck, baboons and zebra who all
come down to the river's edge to drink. Less common are sable, kudu
and bushbuck - but the birdlife, being on a river, is also plentiful.
The big cats are rare to be seen, but it is possible. Leopards can
occasionally be spotted by the keen observer. The mixture of the
river, mopane and grassland habitats provides for a variety of birdlife,
and recently two rare black rhinos were reintroduced to the area.

Day
4 - Lilongwe
After breakfast and game activities, you will drive to Lilongwe
where you will overnight at Heuglin's Lodge for bed and breakfast.
The capital city of Malawi is quite diverse with both a New and
Old City. The 'New City' houses the more upscale hotels, embassies
and offices. The 'Old City' holds the markets, cafes and many other
interesting locales. A day in this city can be quite interesting
with a visit to the market on Malangalanga Rd, and a look into some
of the old Indian spice and cloth shops. You can also visit the
tobacco auction floors. Tobacco is Malawi's most important cash
crop, so this gives an interesting insight into the country's trade.
At night there are a number of good restaurants and nightclubs.
Heuglin's Lodge is situated in the quiet garden suburbs of Lilongwe's residential area. The guesthouse offers 6 spacious and tastefully furnished bedrooms, lounge, a small library and dining room. Set in attractive gardens, bird life is plentiful. The guesthouse offers meals, full bar and there is a swimming pool for guests.

Day
5-7 - Lake Malawi
This morning, after breakfast, you will be met by your driver/guide
and driven to Chintheche Inn. Driving time is approximately four
hours along one of the most scenic road in Malawi. Even though this
is a lengthy drive it is very interesting - the Lakeshore road is
very beautiful and worth the drive. You will also be able to stop
and stretch your legs, buy curios or take photos. Packed lunch and
refreshments will be provided.
The
Inn is situated on Lake Malawi's northern shores and offers en suite
rooms. Each room overlooks a white sandy beach that offers excellent
swimming and interesting beach walks. The Inn has an excellent reputation
for fine cuisine and offers a full bar. Snorkeling, swimming and
boating opportunities are available at the Inn, and local excursions
can easily be arranged - bird watching, diving at Nkhata Bay, points
of local interest and cultural safaris. There is also a recently

Day
8-10 - Nyika National Park
Today you'll transfer to the Mzuzu airport, where you will fly
via light aircraft to Nyika Plateau.
Nyika
National Park in the far north of Malawi's is scenically the regions'
most spectacular wild area. It boasts an incredible mixture of scenery
and landscapes - pristine brachystegia woodland, mature montane
forest patches, crystal clear running streams and miles and miles
of open rolling grassland. Being situated at a mean height of over
2,000 metres guarantees a permanently temperate climate which is
of particular contrast to the lakeshore areas of Malawi. Game that
can be spotted includes Burchell's Zebra, Roan antelope, Common
reedbuck, Eland, Bushbuck, Warthog, leopard, hyena, side-striped
jackal and serval. Birdlife is prolific, and' specials' include
Churring and Mountain cisticolas, Red-tufted malachite sunbird,
Fulleborn's black bou-bou, Bar-tailed trogon, Mountain nightjar
and several species of Bulbul which occur deep in the canopy of
the forests.
Staying
at the Chelinda Lodge, you will have the opportunity for many activities
including mountain biking. With panoramic views over the rolling
grasslands of the Nyika Plateau, Chelinda Lodge has one of the most
magnificent settings in Africa. Sixteen guests can be accommodated
in eight individual en-suite log cabins, each with its own log fire.
The log cabins surround the main dining area and are connected by
raised wooden walkways. You may optionally try your hand at horse
riding for an extra fee.

11 - Mzuzu
After breakfast you will transfer by light aircraft to Mzuzu
airport. Because of its altitude and temperate climate, Northern
Malawi has an almost European feel, with rolling green hills and
verdant forests. The gateway to this unique part of the country
is the city of Mzuzu, which is also the administrative and commercial
headquarters of the Northern Region. And this is where you'll find
the splendid Mzuzu Hotel where you will stay on a bed and breakfast
basis. A true African style hotel, the Mzuzu Hotel assures that
you will experience the North at its very best.
