REVIEW:
The safari ambience of yesteryear but the conveniences of modern day comforts. This is the safari that you have imaged - individual attention, high comfort level, superb guides and camp staff - campfires, stories and great game drives. Our camps are not over done but appropriate for a safari. Nothing is left behind when it comes to your enjoyment of the experience. Meals in the bush are an experience you will never forget. Candle-lit tables, delicious picnics in the bush, a wonderful wine or cocktail after a full day out in the bush.

TANZANIA

Day 1 - ARUSHA, TANZANIA
Upon arrival in Arusha, you are met and greeted by our representative and escorted to your hotel. This evening you will have a safari briefing before the real adventure begins the following morning.
Mountain Village Lodge

Day 2-3 - TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
This morning, depart for Tarangire National Park where your explorations begin with your first game drive. Tarangire in the quintessence of Old Africa with excellent wildlife and also features over 300 bird species! The intriguing atmosphere seems quite prehistoric with ancient baobab trees, scrub bush and outlines of strangely horned antelopes and tall giraffe. This area has a very different and magical feel that makes it so unique - even without the wildlife, the visit is worthwhile. Fewer tourists visit this park than all the other parks. It is one of the best areas on the Tanzania northern circuit to see elephant. The wildlife viewing is excellent, with many migratory animals returning in early summer to the only permanent water source in the area - the Tarangire River and its tributaries. Tribal visits and walking in the area neighboring Tarangire is offered to those wanting a cultural experience. Learning about their history is as fascinating as are the views from the several hilltops in the area. On the second day enjoy an additional full day game drive.

Born Free Exclusive Tented Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Seasonal Itinerary Alterations: From Dec thru July, additional time will be spent in the Serengeti in two different sites.

Day 4 - LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, depart on a drive through the Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park. More that two thirds of this small park (127 square miles) are covered by lake. The park lies at the foot of the escarpment of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley at an altitude of 3,100 feet. Lake Manyara National Park has five different vegetation zones including groundwater forest with giant fig and mahogany trees, marshlands and reedbeds, stretches of open grassland, acacia woodland, and, on the escarpment slopes, thorn bushes and baobabs. The highlight of the park's wildlife is the wonderful hippo population. Elephant, giraffe, monkeys, lion and impala are also to be found. Over 380 species of birds have been identified within the park.

Plantation Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5 - NGORONGORO CRATER
Continue your journey, descending 2,000 feet in 4x4 vehicles into the largest, undamaged caldera in the world. This World Heritage Site is estimated that more than 30,000 animals can be found within the crater walls at any one time. It is home to the largest non-migratory populations of wildlife in East Africa including prides of lion, the rare black rhino, elephant, cheetah, antelope, great herds of Cape buffalo and so many more. Because the crater floor is mostly grassland with patches of acacia woodland, game viewing is excellent. Explore the forest areas where you can see monkey and elephant, the lake area where you may see the beautiful flamingos and the open savannahs where the majestic "Kings", the lions, hunt for food.
Serena Lodge or Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Optional Upgrade Available: Crater Lodge

Day 6-8 - OLDUVAI GORGE to SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
This morning we drive to Serengeti National Park stopping at Olduvai Gorge. This is the site where the Leakey's discovered the fossil of Homo habilis man, who lived over 1.70 million years ago. We head deep into the heart of the most diverse migration areas in the world. During the migration this corridor is the home to thousands of wildebeests, zebra and plains game. With them follow the predators. Each day in the Serengeti will be different as the wild animals play out the stories of birth, survival and death on the plains - and hopefully we will be there to see it all!

This evening retire to our private campsite where the staff will have refreshments waiting. In the evening wonderful dinners will be prepared. After dinner sit around a roaring campfire sharing stories of the bush.
Born Free Mobile Tented Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 9 - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
The tent steward will gently knock on your tent - bringing you hot coffee or tea and biscuits. Your dawn game drive promises to be most exciting. This is the time when the wildlife is most active.

Bid sad farewell to the camp staff and board your vehicle for a full day exploring the park. We now move to another area of the Serengeti to hopefully find that one species we may have missed.
Serengeti Sopa or Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 10 - YOUR JOURNEY ONWARDS
After breakfast we'll drive to the airstrip for our scheduled morning flight to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, those departing from Nairobi will be treated to lunch before boarding the flight to Nairobi. For those departing from Tanzania there will be a dayroom for your convenience and then evening transfers for your onward flight.

(Breakfast, Lunch)

May we suggest extending your African experience with a luxurious stay in Zanzibar.
