For 34 years Born Free has been listening to our returning traveler's comments on how great a trip their safari was - what fabulous animals, beautiful scenery, exciting adventures - even feeling that it changed their lives. But they seemed most impressed with the people of Africa - their humor, openness, their willingness to share and also their true interest in the traveler. We have sent gifts from guests over the years but what is most rewarding is sharing your skills and giving of your self.
Voluntourism is now in the minds of most travelers - not only what can I get but what can I give back. Born Free has created an enrichment program that will offer a traditional safari but time to give back to the local people.
After your safari you can share your skills with several deserving organizations in Kenya. You can assist in building projects, helping bathe and feed babies, cook, teach as well as possibly providing cuddles, warmth and love which is so desperately needed. Born Free has aligned with several deserving organizations in Africa that would welcome the traveler. One, in Kenya, is an orphanage called The Nest (www.thenesthome.com). Please see their site for details.
East Africa has given us so much enjoyment - life changing experiences - now help us give back.

Breakfast at the hotel - then meet your guide and head off along the Great Rift Valley to the Lake Nakuru National Park. The waters here are often colored shimmering flamingo pink, from thousands of the beautiful birds lining its shores. This is one of the fabulous Great Rift Valley Lakes. Lake Nakuru National Park is the ornithologist's dream come true, Lake Nakuru is home to sometimes over a million pink guests - the greater and lesser flamingos - as well as nearly 500 other species of bird. Though primarily a bird sanctuary the 100 sq. mile park is also a black rhino sanctuary. Reed buck, hippo, leopard, waterbuck, Black Colobus monkey and the introduced Rothschild giraffe can be seen. The park also boasts the greatest concentration of leopard in Kenya. On your first game drive you may encounter zebra, giraffe and many species of beautiful antelope. The area has also been set aside as a conservation area for the hippo.

Day 3-4 - MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
This morning head down into the Great Rift Valley and the fabulous Mara. It is said if you have only one place to go - visit the Mara, it truly offers every type of wildlife and stunning scenery.
The Masai Mara is regarded as the most favorite and is definitely the most popular game reserve in Kenya.
Located in Southwestern Kenya and covering an area approximately 932 square miles, lies the "Jewel of Kenya." The Masai Mara is the site of one of the largest and the most spectacular animal migration areas in the world. The Mara's varied topography, which ranges from woodland to grassland to riverine forest and bushland, supports a concentration of game surpassing many national parks in Africa. It is home to the 'big five' - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. The Mara lions are abundant. The Masai Mara is a must for all serious game viewers. The "Big Five" will be supplemented by plains game: wildebeest, zebra, impala, Thompson's gazelles, waterbuck, bushbuck, giraffe, jackel and hyena.
Visit two areas in the Mara -both excellently located. While staying in the park you will go out on game drives each day. Game drives will be morning and afternoon with some full day drives.
A) Little Governor's - B) Sarova Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 5-7 - MARA SIANA CONCESSION – MASAI INTERACTION
Your game viewing continues in this fabulous area. After breakfast, head across the Mara triangle to a Masai Concession that borders the park. Your camp leaves nothing behind as far as comfort. Sit at night by the campfire hearing stories of the bush or have cocktails at sunset - Leleshwa is a step above all others. Highlights of your stay will be activities that you cannot do in the mainstream Mara. Participate in night game drives - a walk with a Masai warrior who takes you into the bush to hear about the local medicinal herbs and traditions. Then head to the Masai village to meet the local people and spend time in their village seeing their work areas, schools and homes.
A) Leleshwa Camp - B) Mara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
