SPECIAL MIGRATION SAFARI: This is a very unique journey. It has been designed to give you the optimum chance of seeing the large migrating herds of wildebeest and zebra. The wildlife moves throughout the year to different areas. One cannot always predict exactly where the vast herds will be, but through the years we have learned to gear travelers to areas that would most likely be great for viewing the herds. The Serengeti south is great in December - March, but during the remainder of the year the game is dispersed. Tarangire is great between July - November, but during the rest of the year we would suggest time spent in other areas. You will note that in most parks we do not mention which property we will use. You will be advised of the exact itinerary once you let us know which departure date is best for you.
Accommodations will be in the deluxe category and/or the best in the area. Premium properties are not selected but can be arranged on private safaris. |

TANZANIA
Day
1 USA - Amsterdam
Your journey begins as you board a KLM/Northwest
flight from your gateway city.
Day 2 - Arrival Arusha, Tanzania
Arrive in Amsterdam and continue on to Tanzania. Upon arrival you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to your hotel where you will have a short safari briefing.
Arusha Coffee Plantation (D)
Day 3-4 - Tarangire
National Park
After breakfast, meet your professional guide and head out into the beautiful countryside. Tarangire
National Park, famous for the huge and beautiful Baobab trees with nighttime opening flowers that await pollination by enormous nectar seeking bats, and vast herds of Elephant (over 3000 utilize this eco-system's resources) that chew the pithy bark to gain the valuable moisture content. Other prominent wildlife poplulations include zebra, wildebeest,
buffalo, eland and the stoic Masai giraffe. Night drives and safari walks are an extra feature offered in this area.
Kikoti Tented Camp / Boundry Hill Lodge (BLD)
* December - July: The wildlife migrates to other areas of East Africa. Instead of Tarangire - this safari will add a day in the Mara & Serengeti.
Day 5 - Lake Manyara National Park
A short drive after breakfast take you to Lake Manyara National Park. It is located in a semi-arid region where the average rainfall is less than 30 inches and the maximum daytime temperature is 86F. There are several vegetation zones including groundwater forest with giant fig and mahogany trees, marshlands and reedbeds, stretches of open grassland, acacia woodland, and, on the escarpment slopes, thornbushes and baobabs. The highlight of the park's wildlife is the wonderful hippo population. Elephant, giraffe, monkeys, lion and impala are also to be found. Over 380 species of birds have been identified within the park, these include: pelicans, flamingos, ducks, geese, waders, herons, kingfishers, marabou and other stork species, larks, hornbill, swallows and doves.
E'Unoto Retreat Lodge (BLD)
Day
6 - Ngorongoro Crater
Descend 2,000 feet in 4x4 vehicles into the largest, undamaged
caldera in the world. This World Heritage Site is estimated that more than 30,000 animals
can be found within the crater walls at any one time. It is home
to the largest non-migratory populations of wildlife in East Africa
including prides of lion, the rare black rhino, elephant, cheetah,
antelope, great herds of Cape buffalo and so many more. Because
the crater floor is mostly grassland with patches of acacia woodland,
game viewing is excellent. Explore the forest areas where you can
see monkey and elephant, the lake area where you may see the beautiful
flamingos and the open savannahs where the majestic "Kings",
the lions, hunt for food. Spend a full day in the crater with a
picnic lunch by the hippo pool.
Serena / Sopa Lodge / Ngorongoro Farmhouse (BLD)
Day 7-8 -
Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart for the vast Serengeti National Park,
the world’s greatest wildlife habitat. The terrain consists of grasslands,
savannahs and rock outcroppings called kopjes. The Great Migration
is designed to give maximum opportunity to experience this event.
The wildlife travels from Kenya around July and back to Tanzania
in the fall. As you approach the Serengeti start to see multitude
of species that inhabit the area. Keep your eyes open for ostrich,
lions of the prowel and possibly the elusive leopard. The Serengeti contains millions of animals within four habitats: Open plains to the south; Savannah and scattered acacia woodlands in the center; Hill, wooded grasslands in the north; And extensive woodlands and black clay plains in the west. Become a part of the life in the Serengeti - birth, feeding, death and life - an incredible experience that you will never forget!

Day 9 - Amboseli
National Park / Mt. Kilimanjaro
Fly to Arusha and then on to Amboseli, located at the foothills
of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. This park is famous for its' elephant
population. There is plentiful game of all sorts here. Birdwatchers
can keep an eye out for many types of raptors. In the shadow of
Mt. Kilimanjaro, beside a copse of giant Acacia trees and a gently
flowing natural spring, the wildlife seemingly pose for us against the backdrop of the largest freestanding mountain in the world.
Amboseli Serena / Ol Tukai Lodge (BLD)
Day 10-12 - Masai
Mara Game Reserve / Visit With the Masai
Drive to Nairobi where you will board a short flight to the Masai Mara. With one sweep of your binoculars you can see
numerous amounts of varied species. The Masai Mara borders the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and is the same eco-system. The landscape is mostly open Savannah grasslands and acacia scrubland. Many times of the year you will see a large number of lion, hippo, crocodile and vultures - all of which prey on the weak and young migrating animals. Other game to be found in the Masai Mara at any time of the year include: elephants, cheetahs, baboons, gazelles, giraffes, jackals, leopards, hyenas, water buffalo, ostriches and a large variety of antelope and birdlife. Game viewing from special 4-wheel drive
safari cruiser. You will have the opportunity to visit a traditional
Masai village for a very special cultural experience.
